ExxonMobil have a 140-year heritage as one of the largest integrated fuels, lubricants and chemical companies in the world. As part of their UK business, they own and operate the Fawley refinery, the Fife Ethylene Plant and five midstream fuel terminals. Finding high-quality personnel is integral to their operations and Matchtech are proud to have supported them in delivering their vital technical talent since 1999.
ExxonMobil realised they needed help...
In 1999, ExxonMobil sourced and payrolled temporary agency workers directly. At this time, the temporary workforce landscape was beginning to see significant legislative changes, meaning that agency workers could be deemed as ‘employed’, thereby potentially causing tax complications for them. To mitigate these risks, they needed an organisation to payroll their temporary workforce.
ExxonMobil required high volumes of agency workers with flexibility to meet the rise and fall in line with their business demand. In addition to their high volumes of worker requirements, they faced a shortage of the required niche skills due to an ageing STEM workforce. ExxonMobil were finding it difficult to source the number of agency workers they required to supplement their permanent members of staff and sought the support of specialist recruitment agencies to satisfy their requirements.

In 1999, ExxonMobil appointed Matchtech as a payroll provider. We offered a unique added benefit at this time of being able to source future temporary talent too - something that a majority of other payroll providers weren't offering.
